Saladini Pilastri, Rosso Piceno, La Marche, Italy 2024
Organically grown grapes on the limestone hills around the beautiful Ascoli Piceno in the Marche region. It is a blend of 80% Sangiovese and 20% Montepulciano aged for 4 months on used French casks. A super wine, medium bodied with cherry and herbal notes and a roundness to the tannins.
Caminante, 'Albizu', Tempranillo, Rioja, Spain, 2024
A brilliantly appointed Tempranillo; unoaked and from the limestone rich Rioja Alavesa sub region. The wine has a dark cherry and earthy finish with good structural natural freshness. Serve slightly chilled and great with barbecue meats.
Les Deux Cols, 'O Font', Cotes du Rhone, France, 2024
Simon Tyrrell, Charles Derain and Gerard Maguire (of 64wine) own Les Deux Cols and make the wine. The vineyards are all either organic or in the process of conversion. Some biodynamic practices are also being adopted. The vineyards have been carefully selected on cooler elevated sites and harvesting is all done by hand and carried out a least a week earlier than the surrounding estates. The wine is fermented using natural yeasts in cement tanks , all with the goal to achieve a lighter fresher style of wine. This is 65% Grenache and 35% Syrah.
Bodegas Cinco Leguas, 'Rompecepas' Garnacha, Chinchon, Madrid, 2023
Marc Isart who was one of the founding members of the 'Comando G' group stepped out and back to his home town of Chinchon outside Madrid. Marc has worked with biodynamics and was keen to work in the truly traditional way with old vine Garnacha from Gredos and vinifies the wine in Chinchon.
The Garnacha is harvested from vineyards high in the Sierra de Gredos mountains near Avila.
