Pascal Chalon is a shy and fastidious winemaker, who farms organically in the Village of Visan in the Rhone valley. He increasingly follows biodynamic principles. This is a blend of 60% Syrah and 40% Grenache. The wine is not a typical Southern Rhone style wine as the Syrah has more similarity with Northern Rhone Cornas or even St Joseph. It has their black olive tapenade and savoury notes in conjunction with the black cherry, clove and spice. For me this is a hearty food wine brilliantly made for a fraction of the price of their Northern counterparts.
