Mas Coutelou is where young winegrower Jean-Francois ('Jeff') Coutelou produces some of the most creative natural wines. His estate lies in Languedoc, a few kilometres from Béziers, where the 20 hectares of vineyards that were there 30 years ago have become 13. The remaining 7 have been replaced by olive trees and other plants to enhance biodiversity. A great champion of local varieties, organic agriculture and natural winemaking, Jeff has become a legend in southern France with his pure, delicious Mediterranean wines.
Mas Coutelou Couleurs Réunies comes from a vineyard that has been completely organic since 1987. The vineyard is planted with strains of recovered local varieties growing in clay and limestone soils and accompanied by a rich animal, plant and mineral biodiversity. The yield is limited to achieve more concentrated grapes and the harvest is carried out manually at the optimal point of ripeness.
Couleurs Réunies is vinified with minimal intervention in order to achieve the maximum expression of the terroir. To do this, the grapes ferment spontaneously with native yeasts and the wine is bottled by gravity without filtering or adding sulphites. With a name meaning the gathering of grapes of many colours, Mas Coutelou Couleurs Réunies is a mix of many red, white and grey varieties. A delightful, pure fruit wine.
