Deep red colour with a tawny-coloured rim. Complex bouquet of dried fruit, with prevailing notes of spice. Sophisticated and delicate on the palate. Good structure, well-balanced acidity and pleasant unctuousness. A long and enduring finish.
Kopke Port is the oldest port house. Established in 1638 by Nicolau Kopke and his son Cristiano, who came to Portugal as representatives of the Hanseatic League, the House has been run through the generations by several representatives of the Kopke family, obtaining an excellent reputation for its Colheita ports.
The 2003 Colheita Tawny Port comes in with 121 grams per liter of residual sugar. It was bottled in March 2022, a different release than the last I saw, with several more years in barrel. This is from a big fat vintage in Douro, and this shows that in its roundness and sweet edge, as I said once before. It's lush, rich and nuanced, at a perfect place. The fruit is fresh, the balance is perfect and it tastes great. As always, it smells great too. At the reasonable price point, this is a no-brainer purchase.-Mark Squires Wine Advocate
