Chris Alheit is currently one of the most exciting winemakers in South Africa and his flagship Cartology Chenin Blanc (with a little Semillon) is about as good as it gets.
Sourced from old vine parcels of fruit across the Cape, the wine is intensely flavoured with notes of pear, honey, lime and dried herbs. Great fruit concentration, coated acidity and a nice pithy quality to the finish.
Scented with citrus and lime leaf, creamy and spicy too with just a touch of oak-fermented and lees mealiness. This has wonderful richness of fruit but also a lovely acid tension giving an incredibly long finish. Super-creamy. 17.5/20 Jancis Robinson
