Join us from 6:30 on Thursday the 7th of March, for a Tasting of wines from the region of Galicia, in Spains Northwest, hosted by Rafa Salazar.
From as far back as the 14th century, and probably earlier, there are records of wine-making in Galicia, and even of cuttings from Galician vineyards being sent to other vineyards across Europe, such was the reputation for quality these vines had. Unfortunately economic depression and subsequent depopulation in the lead 19th century lead to many vineyards being closed, and the region being forgotten outside of local wine drinkers. Spanish admittance to the European Union in the 1980s, resulted in an upturn in fortunes in Galician wines.
Lead by the success of Albarino from Rias Baixas, nowadays the wines of Galicia grace the shelves of specialist wine shops and the tables of fine dining restaurants across the world. Galician regions like Valdeorras, Ribeira Sacra, Ribiero and Monterrei, are becoming more known. People are seeking out these regions and with them knowledge of the local grapes like Godello, Mencia, Loueiro, Treixadura, Caino and myriad of others.
Tickets non refundable.
