Of particular note this vintage is that Frédéric decided to bottle some of his 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale rouge as Nuits-Saint-Georges Clos des Fourches. There are subtle variations in the soils of Clos de la Maréchale – more clay here, more draining there – which 2023’s climate highlighted. 2008 was the last vintage he made of this 2nd wine, which is less powerful and structured that Clos de la Maréchale, but will be ideal for earlier drinking. Colour is clear, bright ruby-purple, aromas are complex, floral and fresh, recalling violets. Palate is full and fleshily intense, with mouth-coating, gentle tannins and charming suppleness (for drinking 2026-2035+).
