“Terre Nere’s wines all possessed unbelievable freshness and complexity as well as huge perfumes that suggested Pinot Noir…These wines are astonishingly complex and ethereal efforts from the hillsides of Mt. Etna in Sicily.” – Robert Parker
The wines of Terre Nere are from slope on the North of Mt Etna, most between 50-100 yrs old and one parcel having survived the phylloxera is 130-140 years old. Varying in elevation from 600-1000m and soils that change even within the individual crus themselves, these are wines that speak to a place.
"The Tenuta delle Terre Nere 2022 Calderara Sottana Etna Rosso is drop-dead gorgeous, starting with its heady scents of wild rose, blue flower, camphor and dark, exotic spice. Made from extremely old vines in what are some of the rockiest soils in the denomination, it's smooth, delicious and elegantly structured, delivering layers of ripe raspberry, creamed strawberry, bitter orange, star anise and crushed mint. A saline mineral tang signals the close while taut, ultra-refined tannins provide seamless support. Fresh acidity keeps it balanced and energized" -96/100 Kerin O'Keefe
