Telmo Rodriguez is one of the finest Spanish winemakers. Telmo travelled and learnt for many years, perfecting his craft and gaining international recognition before returning home to his family winery in Rioja. Fascinated by the potential that Spain's different regions possess, Telmo along with Pablo Eguzkiza, make wines in a number of Spain's winemaking regions, like Navarra, Rueda, Valdeorras, Malaga and Gredos, using grapes native to these areas.
Telmo’s red wine, once again from Galicia, is a red that shows the character of the stony hills and the Atlantic Ocean. This is a red wine made of 100% Mencia, a Spanish varietal found scattered through the country’s northwest. The vineyards are organically farmed, and the fruit is fermented again in stainless steel in order to maintain freshness, and using indigenous yeasts. The influence of the Atlantic Ocean is on full display, with its moderating influence playing its part in bringing balance to the wine. While it is ripe and full bodied, much like its white counterpart, this is vibrant and focussed, with no shortage of complexity and minerality.
