Henriques & Henriques was founded on the island of Madeira in 1850 by Joao Joaquim Henriques, initiating the start of a rich history and a profound knowledge of the art of making Madeira. Currently under the leadership of Master Blender, Humberto Jardím, it is the only House to have consistently owned vineyards in Madeira, allowing them to control every aspect of the production process. They were the first producer to construct a purpose-built winery on the island and are innovative in both product development and design.
This Madeira starts life as fermenting must and fortified before undergoing its own very special maturation process. Made predominantly of Tinta Negra Mole harvest begins from mid-August due to the warm southerly climate. A unique and highly sophisticated Estufa process is set up where termperatures rise to 45ºC before being allowed to cool. This process takes 90 days and renders the wine completely stable. It is then aged in oak casks for 5 years, prior to bottling.
