An organic vineyard for 36 years and biodynamic for 15 years, the Domaine de l'Ecu is located 25 km south-east of Nantes in the heart of the Muscadet vineyard. The terroir of gneiss, orthogneiss and granite of which the vineyard is made up, accommodates 24 hectares of vines. It was Frederic Niger who took over from Guy Bossard in 2010 and he produces vintages from the Nantes terroir, often reflecting mineral specificities such as granite or gneiss. Passionate, he quickly chose winemaking in amphorae, a wine tradition dating back to antiquity and which only winegrowers from Sicily, Georgia, Spain and Italy were still practicing a few decades ago. This method of winemaking requires a lot of attention and delicate handling.
This Chardonnay comes from 100% manual harvesting and aging in concrete vats. Vinified without added sulphur, the next day is headache-free... A beautiful vision of Chardonnay which is full and fresh, very typical of citrus fruits.
