German Blanco embarked on a rescue of ancient vineyard sites in the Villa de Albares region of the Bierzo Alto in northern Spain. German was attracted to the historic potential of these old abandoned vineyards. On iron rich clay at between 780-1,000 metres from 77 year old vines. Traditionally the vineyards were planted with a mix of red and white grapes, including Mencia, Garnacha Tintorera , Palomino (white) , and Trousseau. They were co-fermented. German has respected this tradition and ages in a mix of used barrell, egg and amphora. He farms organically.
