Owned by Franco Bianco and his wife Gabriella, the Castello di Verduno estate is focused around a charming 16th century building in the village of Verduno which sits right by the limits of the Barolo appellation. The couple took on talented enologist Mario Andrion in 2000, but their daughter Marcella also plays an increasing role in the operation of the winery.
Their Bassadone Verduno is made with a rare indigenous grape called Pelaverga which has largely been abandoned by local grape growers. The family decided to name this unique, light-hearted wine Bassadone or “little kiss” in honour of the variety’s reputation as an aphrodisiac amongst the inhabitants of Verduno.
