German Blanco embarked on a rescue of ancient vineyard sites in the Villa de Albares region of the Bierzo Alto in northern Spain. German was attracted to the historic potential of these old abandoned vineyards. On iron rich clay at between 780-1,000 metres . Poula (abandoned) is amongst the last of the vineyards to ripen in the region and traditionally the vineyards we planted with a mix of red and white grapes, including Mencia, Garnacha Tintorera , Palomino (white) , Godello and Dona Blanca. They were co-fermented. German has respected this tradition, foot presses the wines in stone tanks and ages them in amphora.
He farms organically.
