Juan Antonio Ponce stands alone as the leader of Manchuela and as the master of the Bobal grape. Manchuela, a lesser-known Spanish wine region that is inland from Valencia, specializes in the Bobal variety with its thick skins and rusticity. Bodegas Ponce is a pioneer when there are very few defenders of this region and even fewer winemakers that are dedicated to this varietal and other native grapes Moravia Agria and Albilla. The winery was founded in 2005, is worked biodynamically and during the winemaking process a natural approach is taken with minimum levels of sulphur dioxide used.
'Pino' is a single vineyard Bobal that shows the seriousness of wine that can be made from this grape and it's aging potential. This is a powerful expression of Bobal, with more concentration, more tannin, more intensity. Rustic but with character, this is a superb wine.
