Bagineti Winery officially began in 2020 as a small, family-run operation. Today, they produce around 7,000 bottles of natural red and white wines each year, crafted using traditional qvevri methods. They tend about 3 hectares of vineyards in Kakheti’s Bodbiskhevi village. A smaller vineyard in Mtskheta is dedicated to the rare and beautiful Shavkapito variety—a forgotten treasure, known for its deep ruby color and distinctive character.
Made from 100% Shavkapito grapes, an ancient Kartli variety known for deep ruby colour, bright berry fruit and terroir reflective character. At Bagineti the grapes are typically hand harvested and vinified in the traditional Georgian approach, which may include fermentation and ageing in buried clay qvevri using indigenous yeasts, depending on the lot, to express the grape’s natural flavour and structure. Expect aromas of dark cherry and plum with herbal and earthy undertones, supported by fresh acidity and moderate tannins.
