Join us from 6:30pm on Thursday the 6th of November, a tasting and exploration of the Garnacha grape and its importance to wine-making in Spain. Hosted by Rafa Salazar.
Garnacha, the workhorse grape that powers the vineyards of many of Spain's great wine regions. It is the ultimate all rounder and a grape that keeps on giving. From its home in the Aragonese region of Northern Spain, its has spread out, finding homes in many of Spain's other wine regions and with its greatest producers. Its influence has made its way into southern France and the Rhone Valley, where it is known as Grenache, becoming synonymous with 'GSM' blends and Chateauneuf de Pape. It has also found success in the new world with Australia, South Africa and the USA all providing happy homes for its vines. Indeed it is one of the most widely planted varietals in the world today.
Our tasting will focus on Garnacha and Spain, its home. An exploration of regionality, climate, condition and terroir and how little changes in viticulture and the hands of a great winemaker can result in some of the finest wines available in the world today.
