Domaine des Gerbeaux

Jean-Michel Drouin is the proprietor of this highly rated estate. It is based in Solutré, just 2km from the village of Pouilly. Famous for it's extraordinary rock promontory (which President Mitterand climbed annually), the soils are uniquely limestone. As a result, Drouin's wines are very aromatic, elegant and poised. The wines are fermented in both concrete & stainless steel vats, prior to 3 months 'elevage' in two year old barrels. The wines have very little oak flavour. The over-riding impression is of wines which are very balanced, beautifully proportioned and immensely pleasurable.
