Chateauneuf-du-Pape Rhône

Chateau Rayas

When I opened the shop in 2006 my goal was to populate the shelves with great wines . At the top of my list were the wines of Chateau Rayas. It took years before I succeeded and now we have two vintages well hidden in the cellar.

Albert Reynaud purchased the vineyards in 1880.The estate comprises 13ha of north facing vineyards without the famed ‘galets roulés’. The red is made with very old vine Grenache. The stories of notoriously eccentric Jacques Reynaud make entertaining reading. He died in 1997 while buying shoes in Courthezon. The estate was taken over by his nephew Emmanuel who has maintained the quality of the wines and has managed to be a little eccentric too famously standing Jancis Robinson up in 2010 who had travelled over to taste the 2009 vintage.
