The Monteraponi estate, spanning 200 hectares, of which 12 are under vine, boasts some of the highest vineyards in the Chianti Classico area. Located in the Radda subzone, vines are planted up to 570 metres above sea level on albarese and galestro limestone soils. All work is done in the traditional way, with hand harvesting, spontaneous fermentations in concrete and ageing in large used French and Slavonian oak casks. The estate itself is a medieval hilltop village dating from the 10th century.
Old vine Trebbiano is grown amid chestnut, oak, and olives trees in a natural amphitheater with southerly exposure. Hand-harvested, and hand sorted, this delicately crafted Trebbiano is rich and powerful. Elegantly structured with concentrated fruit, dry and full-bodied, the herbaceous, spicy, and savory aromas combine with a linear minerality. It is aged in large Burgundian and Austrian oak barrels.
