Tenute Vercellino emerged in 2020 when siblings Lorenzo and Giuli took back the family vineyard and restored the beautiful brick-vaulted cellars under their home in readiness for their first harvest.
Lorenzo is a trained oenologist, Giuli is a vet whose horses supply sustenance to the vineyard where acidic, sandy soils impede the vines natural vigour.
Vercellino is the only producer in Valdengo. Their vineyards are steeply terraced looking south over the paddies to Monferrato. The vines were planted by their grandfather and father. In 2021 a second, mature vineyard was rented in nearby Cerreto Castello and another in Lessona, that has been totally re-planted; it is the only one where Lorenzo can use a small tractor! In total he has 2ha, farmed with great sympathy for the environment.
The Costa delle Sesia is a blend of Nebbiolo 70%, Barbera, Croatina, Vespolina and Uva Rare. There is damson and cherry flavours with a firm tannic grip. An extraordinary wine of real power and length
