Tenuta San Leonardo underwent a change in the late 1960's when Marchese Anselmo Guerrier Gonzaga, passed control to his son Carlo. Quite a few changes happened including the Carmenere and Merlot vines, growing for possibly centuries, being joined by Cabernet Sauvignon. The influence is quite clearly French, and specifically that of Bordeaux and even more than in Bolgheri, the area renowned for Bordeaux inflenced 'Supertuscan's'. This is a wine capable of taking on the best Clarets in the world.... and winning!!
The 2014 vintage received 94/100pts from the Wine Advocate. A wine that requires patience, but that delivers it all.
