Join us from 6:30 on Wednesday the 9th of April, for a Tasting of wines from the world famous Rioja region, hosted by Rafa Salazar.
Rioja. A historic wine making region and long considered Spain's fine wine capital. Characterized by wealth of historic vineyards and bodegas, some of whom have been making wine for centuries, the region has seen the arrival of a new wave of ultra-modern bodegas that are pushing the boundaries and taking the wines to even greater heights.
As a result, Rioja has a wonderful variety of styles. The geography of the area is also a contributing factor, spanning a terrain that stretches 75 miles from north-west to south-east resulting in diverse climates, topography and soil types – all of which further influence quality and wine style.
The red wines of the region are based around the Tempranillo grape, with Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo playing important roles. And while white wines in the region are less abundantly produced, grapes such as Viura, Malvasia and Garnacha Blanco are used to make some of the best white wines the world has to offer.
The use of Oak has a pronounced effect on the style and characteristics, with some bodegas regularly aging their wines for 10-15 years. Although the tendency among newer wineries is for less oak, less aging and an earlier drinking wine experience.
This is a wonderful opportunity to explore the range of styles the the Rioja region has to offer.
Tickets non refundable.
