Tuscany; Located in Central Italy, with the Tyrrhenian Sea to the west and the Appennine Mountains to the east, this hilly terrain is blessed with a Mediterranean climate, where the extremes of summer heat are tempered by the elevation of the hills. The poor soils of Tuscany result in lower yields and high quality wines, leading to the regions reputation of producing amazing quality wines, proudly gracing the tables of renowned restaurants an wine aficionados around the world.
With the Sangiovese grape being the most important in this region, where red wine makes up 80% of the production, it is around this grape that the greatest of the Tuscan vineyards have concentrated their wine-making prowess. But it is not the only grape grown here, and international varietals and other native grapes continue to play an incredibly important role, in continuing to expand the depth and breadth of wines and the international reputation for excellent wines that Tuscany has become renowned for.
