Luca Roagna is regarded by the Wine Advocate as one of the leading winemakers in Piedmont. Born in 1980 he has followed in his grandfathers footsteps in making wine with minimal intervention. The vines have never seen herbicides and he uses very small doses of SO2. He follows Biodynamic practices. You will find Luca at the leading 'Natural Wine' fairs but does not subscribe to calling his wines 'Natural'. His wines are defined by their purity and intensity. The Paje site is the most calcareous vineyard site in the region. The wines are aged for 5 years in a combination of old oak and cement tanks before release.
"Showing a transparent or almost naked quality of fruit, the Roagna 2017 Barbaresco Pajè is a lovely and graceful wine that maintains an exceptional feeling of lightness and elegance despite everything we've heard about this hot and dry vintage. The workmanship is exceptional in the Pajè with chiseled aromas of forest berry, iris root, licorice and a subtle dusting of white pepper. The mouthfeel is characterized by extremely fine tannins" - 94+/100, Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate
