'Only in its second vintage and bottled separately after the initial 2012 from the 790 plants he has, the 2015 Monstruosa de Monterrei is a true rarity, from an obscure grape with high acidity. The full clusters were pressed and the juice fermented in stainless steel, where it was kept with the fine lees until bottling. All of the whites are without malolactic, and all the wines ferment with indigenous yeasts. This beast has a pH of 2.8 and some nine grams of acidity with 13.5% alcohol, really amazing parameters. No need to say this is a sharp, super austere white with effervescent acidity that makes you salivate. This should have a long life and develop more nuances in bottle. An unusual white of real interest. The grape has thick skins and, with a very long cycle, still keeps high acidity. It was traditionally used in blends with Dona Blanca to give them acidity; it was planted in all the old vineyards in a proportion of 2% to 3%. Lip-smacking! There were 500 liters of this that filled some 600 bottles. It was bottled in May 2017.' Luis Gutierrez
