German Blanco embarked on a rescue of ancient vineyard sites in the Villa de Albares region of the Bierzo Alto in northern Spain. German was attracted to the historic potential of these old abandoned vineyards. On iron rich clay at between 780-1,000 metres . Poula (abandoned) is amongst the last of the vineyards to ripen in the region and traditionally the vineyards we planted with a mix of red and white grapes, including Mencia, Garnacha Tintorera , Palomino (white) over 90% , Godello and Dona Blanca. They were co-fermented. German has respected this tradition, foot presses the wines in stone tanks and ages them in amphora. He farms organically.
This is a mountain wine. Made with over 98% Palomino with the rest made up of a field blend. It is an intense wine, with fruit and floral notes and an unmistakeable minerality. Fresh but powerful, this will linger long on the palate.
