“Terre Nere’s wines all possessed unbelievable freshness and complexity as well as huge perfumes that suggested Pinot Noir…These wines are astonishingly complex and ethereal efforts from the hillsides of Mt. Etna in Sicily.” – Robert Parker
The wines of Terre Nere are from slope on the North of Mt Etna, most between 50-100 yrs old and one parcel having survived the phylloxera is 130-140 years old. Varying in elevation from 600-1000m and soils that change even within the individual crus themselves, these are wines that speak to a place.
The Calderara Sottana is one that shows a high level of complexity and depth. It is a crisp and well structured wine, with a solid backbone of tannins that bodes well for aging and delivers an almost creaminess on the palate. The 2016 Vintage received 94/100pts from the Wine Advocate.
