The Tenuta San Guido is a 7,500-acre estate located in the province of Livorno on the western coastal outskirts of Tuscany near the village of Bolgheri. It is the home of the famed Sassicaia wine. The story starts in 1944 when Mario Incisa planted acquired Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc vines and planted them on the San Guido estate. In 1965 these were joined with another cabernet vineyard, Sassicaia, 'the place of many stones'. Through the first vintage in 1968 to today Tenuta san Guido has been recognized as one of the worlds leading winery's. So much so that with the radical changes in the D.O.C. system of regulations as of the 1994 vintage, Sassicaia's extraordinary reputation was acknowledged through the Italian government's granting the wine its own appellation.
