Join us from 6:30 on Thursday the 15th of February, for a Tasting of wines from one of the great semi-hidden treasures of the wine world, Savoie.
Savoie is a small, hilly protrusion in the Alpine foothills of eastern France, that juts into the mountainous region where Switzerland meets Italy. Despite having a wine growing history that extends back to Roman times, Savoie, like many other out of the way wine making regions has only become known to the wider world in the last 20 years or so, aided by an increase in interest in skiing in this alpine region since the 1970's.
And like so many isolated wine growing regions, the preferred and native grape varietal are rarely seen and grown outside of it. Grapes like Jacquere, Altesse, Mondeuse and Persan, are used to make wines that offer compelling flavour profiles, complexity, along with great aging potential. These are wines that grace the tables of some of the finest restaurants in the world, and will reward the palate of those who will go off-piste to taste them.
